Since it’s in a sketchy neighborhood and you can pretty much play loud music until 2 am, Churchill’s in Miami likes to double book. It can be annoying sometimes, but in other instances it can be rewarding. After a friend’s local show ended, some touring bands that were patiently waiting to play to almost no one sat on the sidelines setting up their merch at around 10 or 11. When I asked one of them what they sounded like he just pointed at my Jane Doe shirt. This was a little inaccurate, but a successful marketing ploy as it got me to stay and check them out. While the music was pretty much breakdown by numbers, it was done well and I bought Thumbscrew’s CD. The other touring band was The Kirby. I know Thumbscrew put out an EP a few years after, but that was the last I heard from either band.
